Sky Germany and Bild report that Wolfsburg is expected to part ways with head coach Paul Simonis following their 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on Friday.

In a match marked by two late goals from the hosts, Wolfsburg’s loss has left the team positioned at 14th in the standings at the time of writing. Consequently, the decision has been made to relieve the Dutch head coach of his duties.

Daniel Bauer, the head coach of the Under-19 team, will assume interim control while the club searches for a permanent successor. Former Hamburg and Hull City manager Tim Walter, along with ex-Union Berlin head coach Urs Fischer, are among the candidates being considered for the role.

Simon’s dismissal marks the third head coach to be sacked this season in the Bundesliga, following Erik ten Hag’s exit from Bayer Leverkusen and Gerardo Seoane’s departure from Borussia Mönchengladbach.

In addition to Simonis, there is growing criticism directed at sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz and managing director of sport Peter Christensen. Both have faced scrutiny for their decision-making, especially considering the significant financial investments made over recent seasons that have not yielded the desired success on the pitch.
