Wolves Consider Selling Jorgen Strand Larsen Amidst Transfer InterestWolves Consider Selling Jorgen Strand Larsen Amidst Transfer Interest

Jorgen Strand Larsen signed a five-year contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers in September.

Wolves are currently open to the possibility of selling striker Jorgen Strand Larsen this month, amid interest from Nottingham Forest.

The club, which is positioned at the bottom of the Premier League, recognizes that allowing the 25-year-old to depart may be beneficial for all parties involved, provided a suitable deal is reached.

A potential transfer to the City Ground has been discussed, even though Forest is also battling relegation in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest, who are missing last season’s top scorer Chris Wood—who netted 20 goals before sustaining a knee injury—are among several clubs considering Strand Larsen as a viable option.

Wood underwent surgery just before Christmas, and a timeline for his return remains uncertain.

Interest from West Ham in Strand Larsen has diminished after the club was quoted £40 million, leading them to acquire Valentin Castellanos and Pablo Felipe instead. Meanwhile, Newcastle’s focus has shifted following a failed £55 million bid last summer, as they have since signed Nick Woltemade.

Sean Dyche’s Forest club is currently seven points clear of the relegation zone and 15 points ahead of Wolves after a recent 2-1 victory against West Ham.

Arnaud Kalimuendo, a summer signing for Forest from Rennes, is expected to join Frankfurt on loan with a purchase option, leaving Igor Jesus and Taiwo Awoniyi as the club’s only remaining strikers.

Strand Larsen has faced criticism from discontented Wolves fans this season due to his solitary goal in the Premier League, contributing to the club’s willingness to entertain his departure, despite having made his move from Celta Vigo permanent last July for £23 million.

Nonetheless, Strand Larsen is well-respected within the club, where he is regarded as a leader. He earned considerable respect for the professional manner in which he navigated interest from Newcastle.

His promising debut season, which included 14 goals and assisted Wolves in finishing 16th, resulted in a five-year contract in September.

The threat of relegation is a significant factor in Strand Larsen’s future, especially after Wolves secured their first Premier League victory of the season last Saturday against West Ham, triumphing 3-0 at the 20th attempt.

Given the likelihood of Wolves playing in the Championship next season, it is believed that selling Strand Larsen in January could yield a higher transfer fee than waiting until summer.

In addition, midfielder Joao Gomes has been linked to Crystal Palace, although Wolves are reluctant to part with him.

However, manager Rob Edwards was more open about the future of Strand Larsen, who has started the last three matches on the bench. “I haven’t said that,” Edwards stated before the upcoming trip to Everton. “There will be interest in a number of our players, especially with our current position, and we possess some really good players.

“We’re under no pressure to make any moves if we don’t believe they are in the best interest of the football club. None of us want to weaken the team during this transfer window or in any window going forward. Our aim is always to strengthen our position.”
