Wolves Secure Signings of Angel Gomes and Adam ArmstrongWolves Secure Signings of Angel Gomes and Adam Armstrong

Wolverhampton Wanderers have finalized the signings of England midfielder Angel Gomes from Marseille and striker Adam Armstrong from Southampton.

Gomes will join the club on loan until the end of the season, with an option for Wolves to purchase him for approximately £6 million. Meanwhile, Armstrong has made the switch for an initial fee of £7 million, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract following the recent £48 million transfer of striker Jorgen Strand Larsen to Crystal Palace.

Currently positioned at the bottom of the Premier League, 18 points adrift of safety, Wolves are bracing for an anticipated relegation to the Championship.

Head coach Rob Edwards expressed confidence in Gomes, stating, “He and I have been in discussions for the past few weeks. I outlined our vision and conveyed our desire to have him on board, emphasizing how he can contribute to our efforts.

“He’s genuinely excited to start playing in England, and it’s thrilling for us to welcome someone who is eager to prove his abilities. He possesses significant quality, and I look forward to his integration into our squad.”

Gomes began his professional journey at Manchester United, where he made 10 appearances before moving to Lille in 2020. During his time at Lille, he played 126 matches, netting 10 goals. After joining Marseille last summer, Gomes scored four goals in 19 appearances, contributing to Roberto de Zerbi’s side’s position in third place in Ligue 1. He made his England debut against Ireland in 2024 and has since earned four caps.

Adam Armstrong, who commenced his career at Newcastle United, transitioned to Blackburn in 2018 and later joined Southampton in 2021. Over four and a half years at Southampton, he scored 43 goals in 174 matches. This season alone, he has tallied 11 goals in 32 games. Armstrong also had a loan spell at Wolves’ rivals, West Bromwich Albion, last season.

“Adam is genuinely enthusiastic about joining us. He is a fierce competitor and brings a quality that we currently need,” Edwards added. “He was very eager to come to Wolves and is motivated to play for the club, marking a significant day for us in securing his services.

“I have admired him for a long time; he’s a talented player with a knack for scoring goals. He can operate effectively on the wings if necessary, but he primarily sees himself as a central striker and a goal-scorer. He offers us much more than just that.”
