Wout Weghorst’s Future at Ajax Uncertain Amidst Lackluster Season

Wout Weghorst seems to be nearing the end of his tenure as a player for Ajax. According to Valentijn Driessen, the striker’s role appears to be increasingly diminished, as evidenced by the recent decisions made by Fred Grim.

Weghorst is having a disappointing season, having missed several months due to injury. Since his return, he has primarily been relegated to brief appearances off the bench. Notably, despite Ajax trailing 1-0 against AZ, he was only brought on just before the match concluded. Grim stated that he intended to introduce Weghorst earlier, but this reasoning was largely dismissed during discussions on Studio Voetbal.

Looking ahead, Weghorst’s contract with Ajax is set to expire this summer. While it is theoretically possible for both parties to continue their relationship, this seems unlikely. Several options are currently being considered. One of these includes a return to Besiktas, while another possibility could involve a reunion with Erik ten Hag, now the technical director at FC Twente.
