On Tuesday, Liverpool’s Under-21 team welcomed Wrexham for a friendly match that concluded in a 1-1 draw. Trent Kone-Doherty scored early for the home side, but Wrexham equalized with a goal from Alex Moore. Notably, academy product Coady made his return to Liverpool after joining Wrexham on a two-year contract from Leicester City this summer.

Additionally, striker Mullin participated in the match following the premature conclusion of his loan spell with Wigan. He has previously expressed his allegiance to Liverpool, sharing memories of attending matches both home and away during his youth.

During his time with Wigan, Mullin scored four goals in 20 League One appearances but has since returned to Wrexham. Manager Phil Parkinson indicated that the club wanted to assess Mullin’s performance against Liverpool before deciding on his future. Parkinson stated to BBC Sport, “Mulls has been fine. He’s joined in training and looks in good shape. Given that he has only played for one club this season, the option for another loan is available. However, with the fixture against Liverpool approaching, we want him to play at his best and evaluate his condition. If we include him in the squad, it could restrict his loan options later this month. Therefore, we will focus on getting Mulls fit and then decide whether to keep him in the squad or allow him to seek playing time elsewhere until the season concludes.”

Wrexham’s match against Liverpool followed their remarkable FA Cup victory over Nottingham Forest, where they eliminated the Premier League side after a thrilling 3-3 draw that ended in a penalty shootout. The club’s Hollywood owners were visibly impressed by the team’s performance, with Reynolds present at the game and Mac sharing his enthusiasm on social media, praising the players for their incredible effort.

Parkinson expressed his delight following the FA Cup win, stating, “This is a great night. We highlighted some of the club’s significant FA Cup moments to the players and asked if we could create our own history. We have certainly achieved that. This match against Premier League opponents serves as a critical step in our development. We must learn from these encounters, as giving them any space can lead to punishment.”

Looking ahead, Wrexham is set to face Ipswich Town in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Mullin’s future now enters broader discussions between Parkinson and Wrexham’s ownership. Currently positioned ninth in the Championship, Parkinson noted the potential for squad improvements. “We’ll have a group discussion next week. With players returning from injury, any signings we consider will be strategic to enhance the team, not merely for the sake of it. If we identify valid opportunities for improvement, we will pursue them,” he added.
