Lamine Yamal recently stirred controversy ahead of the highly anticipated Clásico, a long-standing rivalry in Spanish football. His unexpected jibe during a Twitch broadcast of the Kings League added fuel to the fire. When asked by Ibai Llanos if his Porcinos FC team reminded him of Real Madrid, the 18-year-old responded playfully, stating, “Yes, of course, they steal, they complain…”

While his remarks were intended as light-hearted banter, they did not sit well in Madrid, prompting Yamal to brace himself for some hostility during the match. This tension culminated in a chaotic finish at the Bernabéu, where Pedri received a red card in the 100th minute, escalating emotions further.

In the aftermath, players from both teams exchanged heated words, with Real Madrid stars Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham getting involved in the fracas. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, along with Dani Carvajal, approached Yamal to emphasize the importance of maintaining composure away from the pitch. Discussing the incident with COPE, Courtois commented, “Lamine Yamal spoke in a certain way and lit a bit of a fire under the match, and of course the press took advantage of the topic. I think the Clásico is like that; sometimes we need this kind of vibe.”

Despite the tension, Courtois reassured that there was no lingering animosity between him and Yamal, noting, “If I see Lamine in a restaurant tomorrow, I’ll greet him. I think there’s no problem between him and me, and these are football matters.” He acknowledged that Yamal’s comments served as motivation for the match.

Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong criticized the behavior of the Real Madrid players, suggesting their confrontational approach toward Yamal was unwarranted. He stated, “When the referee blew for full-time, several Madrid players went straight for Lamine. It was over the top. If Carvajal wanted to talk to him, he could’ve done it privately.”

The next encounter between Barcelona and Real Madrid is not set to occur until May 2026 at Camp Nou, which will have reopened by then. Currently, Real Madrid leads the Liga table, sitting three points ahead of Barcelona after 12 rounds of fixtures. Both teams are expected to return to domestic action following the recent international break.
