Youri Baas: A Rising Star in Demand

Youri Baas has gained considerable popularity in the transfer market, and it is highly unlikely that the defender will remain with Ajax this summer.

According to transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, the competition for securing Baas’s signature is intensifying. Reports indicate that seven clubs have shown interest in collaborating with him: five from the Premier League, one from Ligue 1, and one from the Bundesliga.

Baas has become indispensable for Ajax. Recently, Anco Jansen commented on ESPN about the key player, stating, “Even during Ajax’s challenging phase, I found him to be incredibly impressive. He has developed remarkably, particularly in terms of his ball-playing abilities and the initiative he takes in buildup play. He has truly become essential. While at NEC he played little or as a left-back, he has returned and become absolutely vital for Ajax defensively. Despite Ajax’s struggles in the first half of the season, I thought he performed exceptionally well.”

As for Baas himself, he aspires to take the next step at the Johan Cruijff ArenA by becoming a leader. When asked by Voetbal International if he has leadership examples, he replied, “There are, of course, different types of leaders. Virgil van Dijk, for instance, is very vocal, while Dusan Tadic is also verbal but leads by example. So, there are various types of leaders. I am increasingly focused on discovering my own leadership style as Youri Baas, because not everyone is the same. Am I a talker or a doer? A bit of both, actually.”
