Youri Regeer may not be competing for the title with Ajax this season, but he has no regrets about his return to Amsterdam, having left FC Twente last year.

In an interview with De Telegraaf, Regeer, 22, stated, “Ajax is and remains a top club in the Eredivisie. After my enjoyable time at Twente, I felt ready for the next step. It was wonderful to return to the club where I spent a significant part of my youth development. I wanted to build on the progress I made at Twente and take it to the highest level in the Eredivisie.”

As for the remainder of the season, Regeer remarked, “It’s important for us to finish the season on a positive note as a team. We need to strive for the highest achievable goals, perhaps a second-place finish or even more. As my father always says, ‘You never know how the ball rolls.’”

Regeer recently faced criticism from fans in the business lounge following the 2-2 draw against Go Ahead Eagles, where he had promised to do everything possible to restore the club to its former glory. A fan shouted, “You spent seventy million!” To which Regeer responded, “Seventy million? Speak to the technical staff. What can I do about that?”

After the match, Regeer expressed on ESPN, “They made an adjustment in the second half, and we completely lost our grip. We should have decided the game in the first half and scored a third goal, but giving it away like that is unacceptable. We lacked a leader on the pitch to guide us. We must work with the players we have, and these kinds of situations should not occur.”
